There was thirteen continuous hours of protest outside the last day of the Luton Airport Masterplan Exhibition.

Chris, a resident from Breachwood Green (a village at the end of the existing runway) and Susan Dye started the day with a personal act of resistance - lying over the threshold of Church House where the Exhibition was being held. They were not asked to move. They stayed in place from 8.30am to 9.20am, at one point covering both entrances to the building. This was a symbolic action to draw attention to the harm the airport expansion will cause both to wildlife around the runways and globally through climate change. The intention was not to prevent the exhibition happening but to let Luton Airport Operations Limited know that there is *strong* opposition.

This was followed by leafletting from LADACAN (www.ladacan.org/) helped by many local organisations including:
North Herts Friends of the Earth
Hitchin Parents Against Climate Change
North Herts and Stevenage Green Party
Hitchin Forum
Hitchin Society
CARE (Campaign against Runway Expansion)
SLAP (Stop Luton Airport Plans) www.stoplutonairport.org/ (This website is excellent!)

At 4o'clock there was a candle lit vigil by the Hitchin Parents group for action on climate change.

There was an overwhelmingly positive response from the public and many went in to make their views clear to the exhibitors. The exhibition was a clear promotion of Luton airport's preferred option of a second runway.

Woodland Trust have an action on their website highlighting the ancient woodlands under threat - see www.woodland-trust.org.uk.
